Bryony House is a 24 bed shelter for abused women and their children. Established in 1978 by the Halifax Transition House Association, it is Nova Scotia's first transition house. The Halifax Transition House Association receives 75% of its funding from the Provincial Department of Community Services; grants, foundations, donations, and fundraising provide other revenue. Each year Bryony House offers safety and shelter to approximately 450 women and children and answers over 4500 distress calls. Women who contact us come from many walks of life, socio-economic classes and cultural backgrounds. The issue they have in common is that they are in, or are fleeing, an abusive intimate relationship. The Halifax Transition House Association believes in the right of all women and their children to live free of violence.
