Welcome to Bryony House
where hope LIVES
Bryony House is a 24-bed shelter. Each year, approximately 470 women and children stay with us and 2,500 distress calls are answered. Our dedicated counsellors are there to answer the 24-hour distress line, provide individual/group supportive counselling, public education, advocacy and referrals.
We are ALWAYS within reach. Contact us today via email, phone or via our online form. Our shelter is located in Halifax, NS. We are just a click or call away and can help you in your time of distress. If in doubt, look around our website and take your time, we have several online forms as well as helpful posts and pages for you.
Bryony House receives funding from a provincial operating grant through the Department of Community Services. To maintain our current level of service to women and children escaping intimate partner abuse, we rely on the generosity of our community through donations. You can always make a difference.
Welcome to our NEW quarterly publication, “The Bryony Buzz”! It’s a new
way we can communicate with our members, partners, stakeholders, and the
general public about our important work. We hope you will enjoy learning
more about our organization in this issue, and in the future.
Our Services & Goals
The Halifax Transition House Association of Nova Scotia (Bryony House) believes all women and their children have the right to live free of abuse. To provide shelter for women and their children who seek safe and secure refuge from a abusive relationship
Bryony House assists women in preparing emergency plans to ensure their safety when leaving an abusive situation. This could include establishing an escape route, gathering important documents, saving money and hiding small bags of clothing.
We could do nothing without the support of volunteers. We have many volunteer job descriptions to support the work of the shelter and the administration. Volunteers help the objectives of the Halifax Transition House Association
Throughout the year Bryony House and its Difference Makers host a number of special events. These provide an excellent venue for people like you to learn more about the services we provide and awareness of intimate partner abuse while having fun!
Bryony House receives funding from a provincial operating grant through the Department of Community Services. Our current level of government support does not cover the full cost of running a safe shelter and our essential programs. Donations are always welcome.
Our amazing sponsors help Bryony House to fulfill its mission to protect women in times of need. If you would like to be a sponsor then please view our sponsors page and/or contact us for more information. Every little helps the cause here at Bryony House.
